Tesla has issued its sixth recall of 2024 for the Cybertruck, affecting more than 2,400 vehicles due to a defective part that could cause a loss of power to the wheels. This recall impacts Cybertrucks built between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024.
The recall, posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on November 5, relates to an issue with the drive inverter’s metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors. If the inverter malfunctions, the accelerator pedal may fail to engage, causing the vehicle to lose power. Tesla has confirmed that no accidents, injuries, or fatalities have been reported due to the defect.
This recall is the latest in a series of safety-related actions taken by Tesla this year. In October, the company recalled over 27,000 vehicles due to a potential rearview camera failure. Earlier in 2024, two separate recalls were issued in June for windshield wiper issues and loose trunk bed trim. Tesla also recalled vehicles in April over a faulty accelerator pad.
Details of the Cybertruck Recall
The recall affects Cybertrucks with a specific issue in the drive inverter, where metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors may fail. When this happens, the driver may not be able to accelerate, despite pressing the pedal. A warning will appear on the vehicle’s display if the problem occurs.
Tesla will replace the faulty parts at no cost to owners.
