Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured their 13th Ligue 1 title on Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Angers, sealing the championship with six matches still to play. The decisive goal came in the 55th minute, as Désiré Doué volleyed home a perfectly placed cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. This victory marked PSG’s 23rd win in 28 games this season, extending their dominance in French football and solidifying their record for the most Ligue 1 titles in history.

QSI’s Continued Success Under PSG’s Ownership

The win also added another title to PSG’s growing collection since being taken over by Qatari Sports Investments (QSI) in 2011. With this latest triumph, PSG has now won 11 league titles under QSI’s ownership, cementing their position as the most successful club in French football over the past decade. Manager Luis Enrique and his staff celebrated the achievement enthusiastically, with players enjoying a lap of honor at the Parc des Princes as fans cheered in the Parisian sun.

PSG Struggles but Triumphs Against Angers’ Resilience

Despite their dominance this season, PSG faced a tough challenge against Angers, who defended with determination despite being at the bottom of the table with five consecutive losses. Angers sat deep and worked hard to frustrate PSG’s attack, with goalkeeper Yahia Fofana making a superb diving save to deny Vitinha’s long-range effort before halftime.

Although PSG controlled possession, they struggled to break down Angers’ defense in the first half, with their attacking play lacking fluidity. However, Doué’s well-timed volley after Kvaratskhelia’s pinpoint cross broke the deadlock and gave PSG the control they needed to manage the rest of the match comfortably.

Ousmane Dembélé and PSG’s Offensive Difficulties

In the second half, Ousmane Dembélé entered the fray but was unable to add to his tally of 21 Ligue 1 goals this season. Despite their offensive challenges, PSG held firm, avoiding any significant pressure from Angers in the final stages. With the win, PSG extended their lead at the top of the table, all but confirming their status as champions with a commanding points gap.

Luis Enrique Eyes French Cup Glory and a Domestic Double

With the Ligue 1 title secured, PSG now shifts its focus to the French Cup final against Reims, set for May 24 at the Stade de France. A victory in that match would grant PSG a domestic double, following their Ligue 1 triumph. Under the leadership of Luis Enrique, the club has showcased impressive tactical discipline and confidence, further elevating their standing in French football.

The win also keeps PSG ahead of the competition, with Monaco and Lyon continuing their battle for Champions League spots. Enrique praised his squad for their disciplined approach to the game, ensuring they stayed focused despite the challenges posed by Angers. As PSG now looks toward securing another trophy, the club’s supporters eagerly await what could be their second major victory of the season.
