Microsoft is currently addressing a major disruption affecting access to several services, including Outlook and Microsoft Teams, that began early Monday morning.
The issue, which is impacting users globally, has been traced to problems with Exchange Online and features within the Teams calendar. These tools are essential for communication and scheduling within many businesses.
Outage tracking site DownDetector started receiving reports of the problem around 8 a.m. ET, with users quickly expressing frustration on social media. By 11 a.m. ET, thousands had reported issues, with some sharing their disrupted workday experiences online.
One user commented, “Microsoft outage has ruined my productive day! Looks like it’s back to phone calls and handwriting.”
Microsoft later acknowledged the issue was caused by a recent change, which the company began reversing. In a follow-up message, the company stated that the fix had been rolled out to “approximately 90% of the affected users” and that recovery efforts were ongoing.
Past Outages and Ongoing Recovery Efforts
This outage follows a similar issue that occurred in September, where users were unable to access email or other Microsoft 365 applications. The company resolved that disruption quickly, attributing it to a change made by a third-party ISP. After the ISP reverted the change, services returned to normal.
During that earlier disruption, more than 24,000 users were impacted, with the problem peaking around 9 a.m. ET. Microsoft confirmed that the issue had been addressed after the adjustments from the ISP.
