Rolls-Royce Submarines has secured a £9 billion contract with the UK Ministry of Defence. This eight-year deal, called the Unity contract, will help design, build, and maintain nuclear reactors. It will also create over 1,000 jobs and boost national security. This major agreement shows the importance of Rolls-Royce in UK defence and the economy.

Big News for UK Defence and Economy

Rolls-Royce Submarines Ltd, a part of Rolls-Royce Holdings, has signed its biggest defence deal with the UK government. The £9 billion (€10.67 billion) contract is for designing, making, and maintaining nuclear reactors for the Royal Navy’s submarines.

The Unity contract will last for eight years. It will create over 1,000 new jobs and protect 4,000 existing ones. The project will simplify Royal Navy operations and support the building of Dreadnought Class submarines. These submarines play a key role in the UK’s nuclear defence.

    More Jobs and Teamwork

Steve Carlier, head of Rolls-Royce Submarines, said the deal is very important. “This long-term contract lets us invest in skills, tools, and facilities to keep the UK safe,” he said.

The Unity contract will make Rolls-Royce’s work with the Ministry of Defence stronger. It will improve reactor design and ensure reliable support for the submarines. During uncertain times, this deal shows the UK’s focus on advanced defence technology to stay secure.

Sir Chris Gardner KBE, who leads the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), said this deal is a big step forward. He noted it will improve efficiency and resilience in defence. The deal also gives Rolls-Royce more financial security to plan for the future and invest in new technology.

    Stronger Defence and More Growth

This record-breaking deal comes as countries spend more on defence due to global tensions. UK Defence Secretary John Healey called the deal a huge investment. “This investment in defence will help businesses, create jobs, and protect national security,” he said.

He added that the contract fits with the government’s plan to combine economic growth with national security. “We are showing that defence can help the economy and give better value to taxpayers,” Healey said.

    Better Technology and Security

This deal strengthens the UK’s nuclear defence while supporting the local nuclear industry. It will protect skilled jobs and help the economy through smart defence spending.

Rolls-Royce’s role in this project proves it is a leader in defence engineering. The deal also shows the UK’s focus on innovation and teamwork in a changing world.
