Drake’s record label denies accusations of enabling Kendrick Lamar’s diss track and calls the claims baseless. Universal Music Group (UMG) countered the Canadian artist’s lawsuit, asserting that his allegations are “illogical and false.”

Drake filed a defamation lawsuit on Tuesday. He accused UMG of publishing Kendrick Lamar’s song Not Like Us, which allegedly spread harmful claims branding him a “paedophile.”

In its response, UMG stated, “The idea that we would damage Drake’s reputation is both untrue and nonsensical.” The label also alleged that Drake aimed to “silence” Lamar by escalating their rap feud to the courtroom.

Label Defends Role in Artist Disputes

UMG highlighted its long-standing partnership with Drake, emphasizing its role in his success. “We’ve supported Drake for over a decade, investing significantly in his career and helping him achieve historic milestones,” the label remarked.

It criticized Drake’s attempt to use legal means against Lamar’s creative expression. “Drake has used UMG to share his music and engage in rap battles. Now, he seeks to weaponize the legal system to stifle artistic freedom,” the statement said.

The label firmly denied any intent to harm Drake, adding, “We do not and will not engage in defamation against any artist.”

    Feud Takes Legal Turn

Drake’s lawsuit, filed in New York, continues his feud with Lamar. Last year, the artists exchanged heated diss tracks, with Drake accusing Lamar of domestic abuse. Lamar retaliated in Not Like Us, labeling Drake and his circle “certified paedophiles.”

Drake’s lawsuit alleges UMG knowingly promoted false claims for profit, stating, “They prioritized greed over artist safety.” He also linked the controversy to a shooting at his Toronto mansion, blaming the label’s actions.

Despite targeting UMG, Drake clarified the lawsuit is not directed at Lamar. “This case is about UMG’s decision to publish, promote, and monetize false, dangerous allegations,” court documents read.
