Microsoft has announced that the majority of its application services, including Outlook and Teams, have been restored following a major outage on Monday morning.
In an update posted on X (formerly Twitter) around 11 p.m. ET, the company confirmed that “functionality has been restored for all impacted services except for Outlook on the web, which is still experiencing issues for a small number of users.” Microsoft also stated that it is continuing to investigate the remaining problems with Outlook on the web and delays in mail queueing.
The outage, which affected services such as Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams Calendar, began early on Monday. DownDetector, a platform that tracks tech service disruptions, reported widespread issues starting around 8 a.m. ET. By shortly before 11 a.m. ET, thousands of user complaints had been logged, many of which were shared on social media.
This incident follows a similar series of outages that impacted Microsoft 365 users in September.
Users Express Frustration on Social Media
As the outage continued, many users took to social media to vent their frustrations. One user posted on X, “Microsoft outages are ruining my productive workday. Phone calls and handwriting may be the only solution.”
Another user tweeted, “As much as I appreciate a laid-back workday, Microsoft, I need you to fix this Outlook issue. I’m trying to wrap up all my work before the holiday.”
Microsoft has assured users that it is working to resolve the remaining issues, particularly with Outlook on the web.
