In a recent incident in downtown Oslo, a tram derailed and crashed into a phone and computer shop, resulting in four injuries, including the driver. Fortunately, none of the injuries are considered serious, according to Norwegian police.
The derailment occurred on Tuesday at an intersection on Storgata, a key thoroughfare near Oslo’s main train station. At the time, approximately 20 people were aboard the tram.
Witness Mohnsin Munir reported to local media that he observed the tram traveling at a high speed. It appeared to be making a left turn when it derailed, continuing straight into the shop.
Authorities stated that the tram driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, is being treated as a suspect in the investigation. Photos from the scene show the tram’s first carriage wedged into the building, causing significant damage to the storefront.
While the tram driver was among those injured, all individuals received treatment at the scene, and no serious injuries were reported. The cause of the derailment remains unclear, and police are awaiting the arrival of officials from the Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority.
In the aftermath of the crash, the four-story building was evacuated to assess potential structural damage. The transport operator, Sporveien, manages the tram and subway systems in Oslo, which serve around 50 million passengers annually.
