At CES 2025, Sony unveiled groundbreaking innovations across mobility, sports, and content creation. The tech trade show in Las Vegas provided the perfect stage for showcasing technologies set to transform multiple industries.
Sony’s Afeela 1 EV Takes Center Stage at CES 2025
One of the biggest highlights at CES 2025 was the Afeela 1 electric vehicle (EV) from Sony Honda Mobility. After debuting as a concept in 2022, the Afeela 1 is now ready for reservations in California. The vehicle costs $89,900 (€86,500), and deliveries will begin in mid-2026.
The Afeela 1 features 800 trillion tera operations per second (TOPS) of computing power. It includes 40 advanced driver-assistance sensors to enhance both safety and convenience.
“Afeela’s AI perception system recognizes its surroundings with accuracy. Its AI planner develops optimal driving strategies,” said Yasuhida Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility, during the CES 2025 keynote.
Coach Headsets and PXO AKIRA
CES 2025 also introduced Sony’s sports technology, including a coach headset powered by Horizon’s 5G network. The headset will improve communication and operational efficiency for NFL teams starting in the 2025 season.
Sony also unveiled the PXO AKIRA virtual production system. The system allows dynamic filming of vehicles without requiring on-location shoots. It uses robotic cameras, motion platforms, and LED displays to simulate real environments, reducing production costs and enhancing safety.
“It rotates 360 degrees and syncs with virtual environments on LED screens, creating a more realistic filming experience,” said Johnny Slow, CEO of Pixomondo, a Sony subsidiary.
XYN 3D Scanning Technology Revolutionizes Asset Creation
Sony also introduced the XYN system. This technology scans objects and spaces, converting them into high-quality 3D assets. It has potential uses in film, gaming, and virtual reality.
“XYN converts real-world objects into 3D assets using mirrorless camera images,” explained Thaisa Yamamura, Sony Electronics’ head of XR Business Development. The system speeds up asset creation using advanced algorithms and allows users to add motion data via a dedicated app.
Sony Continues to Lead Technological Innovation
Sony’s CES 2025 showcase highlighted its commitment to innovation across industries. From the Afeela 1 EV to the PXO AKIRA virtual production system and XYN 3D scanning technology, Sony’s products promise to redefine the future of mobility, entertainment, and content creation.
