Europe’s Largest EV Charging Centre Plan Revealed

Trafford Centre bosses have unveiled plans for Europe’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging hub.

Plans for a Major EV Hub

A planning application has been submitted to redevelop the former petrol station near the Marks & Spencer store at Trafford Centre. This project aims to create the largest concentration of super-fast EV charging spaces in Europe.

The redevelopment will include a Starbucks Drive-Thru, an ultra-rapid charging hub, a supercharger lounge, a car showroom, and a new digital advertising screen. The screen will feature a vertical “living wall” with plants to enhance biodiversity.

Matthew Anderson, development director at Pradera Lateral, which manages Trafford Centre, said the plans would add 47 ultra-rapid 250kW chargers. This expansion would bring the total number of chargers at the centre to 65, potentially making it the largest ultra-rapid charging hub in Europe.

Supporting Sustainability and Local Biodiversity

Anderson emphasized that the design aligns with the Trafford Centre’s aesthetics and the surrounding area. “The scheme is forward-thinking, improves biodiversity, and promotes sustainable travel to and from the centre,” he said.

If the proposals are approved, construction is expected to begin in early 2025, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
