Greek authorities are conducting rescue operations after a wooden dinghy carrying migrants capsized near Crete. The incident took place 12.5 nautical miles southwest of Gavdos. Coastal and coast guard vessels, along with Air Force and navy helicopters, responded to the emergency.
According to ERT, one person has died, and 39 survivors have been transported to Paleochora in Kandanos-Selinos municipality. Initial reports indicate about 80 people were aboard the vessel when it capsized.
Critical Rescue Amid Strong Winds
A man suffering from symptoms of drowning was airlifted to Chania Hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. Strong winds, measuring five on the Beaufort scale, have made rescue efforts more challenging.
Authorities continue searching for dozens still missing in the rough seas.
