A ballistic missile launched from Yemen struck near Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Sunday, injuring four civilians and sparking alarm across Israel. The Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the Israeli military, air defense systems attempted to intercept the missile, but all efforts failed. This incident marks a serious escalation in cross-border tensions just days after another Houthi missile targeted northern Israel.

Houthi Missile Hits Near Ben Gurion Airport

The missile struck close to Israel’s main international gateway, Ben Gurion Airport, prompting immediate emergency responses. Though no lives were lost, four people were treated for minor injuries caused by flying debris.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that multiple interception attempts were unsuccessful. This rare failure in Israel’s normally robust air defense has triggered concerns about evolving missile threats.

    Israel Vows Strong Retaliation

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz promised a swift and severe response. “Whoever harms us, we will harm them sevenfold,” he declared in a televised address. Officials are now reviewing military options against Houthi installations in Yemen.

This latest strike follows a pattern of recent Houthi attacks on Israeli territory, with most intercepted mid-air. However, the growing number of successful hits is causing increased public anxiety and political pressure.

    Houthis Align with Palestinian Cause

The Houthi rebels, who control parts of Yemen, have intensified attacks in what they describe as solidarity with Palestinians. Their missiles and drones have been aimed at both Israeli cities and international shipping lanes in the Red Sea.

Though most projectiles are intercepted, recent strikes have breached Israel’s Iron Dome and David’s Sling defense systems, causing visible damage and sparking debate over national security preparedness.

    U.S. Responds with Airstrikes

In response to Houthi aggression, the United States has conducted targeted airstrikes against rebel positions in Yemen. These attacks aim to stop further threats to Israel and ensure safe passage for commercial ships in the Red Sea.

Despite evidence of Iranian weapons found in rebel-held areas and intercepted shipments, Tehran denies directly arming the Houthis. U.S. officials and UN experts disagree, citing recovered arms made in Iran as proof of ongoing violations of the UN arms embargo.

    Civilian Casualties Raise Concerns

One recent U.S. airstrike hit a Yemeni detention center, reportedly killing 68 African migrants and injuring 47 others. Human rights groups have called for a full investigation into the incident, which has raised fresh concerns about civilian safety in Yemen’s war-torn regions.

This tragedy has increased scrutiny of all foreign military actions in Yemen, as the conflict draws in more regional and global players.

A Regional Conflict with Global Implications

The rising tension between Israel and the Houthis adds a new layer to Middle East instability. Experts warn that continued missile exchanges and international military interventions risk expanding the conflict beyond its current borders.

With one of the busiest airports in the region now in the line of fire, global aviation authorities may reassess flight paths and safety protocols in Israeli airspace.

As missile threats grow and regional alliances harden, Israel is preparing for broader military operations. The international community, including the U.S. and UN, will likely intensify diplomatic efforts to contain the violence. For now, the situation remains volatile.
