A gunman opened fire on an Israeli military post in the occupied West Bank, killing two Israeli soldiers early Tuesday morning.

Israeli officials confirmed the attack, stating that the soldiers returned fire before the Palestinian gunman was killed.

The attack took place near Tayasir in the Jordan Valley, as Israel entered the second week of military operations in the West Bank.

Several Soldiers Injured, Some in Critical Condition

In addition to the two fatalities, eight other Israeli soldiers sustained injuries, with two in critical condition, according to military sources.

The Israeli military launched the operation immediately after the temporary ceasefire in Gaza took effect.

On Sunday, Israeli forces demolished dozens of buildings in the Jenin refugee camp, claiming they were targeting militant activity.

Violence in West Bank Intensifies Amid Gaza War

Since the war in Gaza began in 2023, violence in the West Bank has escalated sharply.

The conflict started after Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, leading to ongoing military confrontations.

Israeli forces continue to conduct near-daily arrest raids, which often result in gunbattles with militants.

Meanwhile, Palestinian attacks on Israelis and violent actions by Israeli settlers against Palestinians have both increased significantly.
