A Russian drone strike on a residential building in Kyiv on Friday night resulted in at least one fatality and several injuries, including a teenage girl, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The attack targeted a 25-story apartment complex, igniting a fire on one of the upper floors. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene to extinguish the blaze and conduct search and rescue operations.
Klitschko reported that one of the five injured individuals was hospitalized, and a first aid tent was established at the site for those affected. Ukraine’s Emergency Service indicated that the drone strike caused significant damage to multiple apartments, prompting the evacuation of approximately 100 residents.
Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, noted on Telegram that apartments from the 17th to the 21st floors were impacted, with flames reported on the 20th floor.
Before the strike, local media indicated that an air alert had been issued in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine due to a widespread Russian drone assault—an event that has become almost routine in recent weeks. Air defense units were reportedly activated during the hour-long alert.
